your healing story is a love story: the origin story

Welcome to my new blog: Your Healing Story is a Love Story.

Can you just sit with this blog name for a moment? How does this name feel in your heart? Your bones? Your flesh?

When I first thought of this name, a feeling of joy and wholeness washed over my body.

By early August this year, I knew I was going to transition my Substack-based blog, The Healing Hype, to another blog directly on my website. I wasn’t sure if I’d keep the name The Healing Hype or if it would just be a nameless blog. As I wrote in my last post on The Healing Hype, my main incentive was to simplify. But with this simplification arrived a name I am beyond in love with! I hadn’t necessarily planned to have a theme, but I feel my work folds into this so beautifully.

But how exactly did it come to be?

It all started with this tweet and its first reply.

A screenshot of a tweet by @emmabo that talks about how they highly recommend a book, even if it "destroyed" them. The first reply to this tweet is a book that reminds her of this called Tomorrow, Tomorrow, an Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

[Image ID: A screenshot of a tweet by @emmabo that says “me, recommending a book: this book DESTROYED ME. this book RIPPED MY VERY BEING APART. i read the end sobbing n a fetal position on the floor and i didn’t move for three hours. please read it HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT”. The first reply to the tweet is also by @emmabo and says “for those of you asking here is one book that recently destroyed me” with a link to the book Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. End ID]

After I saw @emmabo’s compelling tweet, I had to look up this book, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin! And the first thing I read was “this book is a love story”.

That’s it. That’s what got me here. Right as I read that, I said to myself, “Wait, your healing story IS a love story!” This mindblowing realization made me re-frame and transmute what I wrote on The Healing Hype into something that felt so focused yet so open. A conclusion that allowed for new beginnings.

And, by the way, I did read Zevin’s novel. While it didn’t rip my very being apart, it was a beautiful story, told through the lens of video games. I found myself choking back tears and reflecting on the many ways we love others. So yes, please do read this book (affiliate link)…even if you aren’t into video games (I’m not)!

One thing I love about creating this name “Your Healing Story is a Love Story” is how it feels like a love story itself—a love story about how I connect ideas simmering in my mind, like knowing that I wanted to make a shift with my blog, to inspiration from the outside world, which came in the form of a tweet. It’s so very relational, as are our healing stories and our love stories.

After this, I immediately started to handwrite my spilled thoughts into a brand new journal because I knew this writing wasn’t just part of my day-to-day journaling. This felt like a budding project from a budding idea, and it required a home of its own. I rarely handwrite things I plan to share online. I usually just head to my computer and start typing away. But this time felt different.

So how will this theme play out?

That’s for the next post :) If you subscribed to The Healing Hype, this will have a different vibe. It will still be about healing through an anti-oppressive lens, but it will be more personal, maybe even romantic…not in The Notebook kind of way but in a relational, experiential, mind- and body-shifting way.

As always, I will audiorecord these posts as well so you have more choices with how to engage.

Thanks for being here, and let me know what you think in the comments!
